Buncombe, Henderson, Transylvania, and Jackson Counties in North
Carolina.
The Montreat Pipes and Drums competes at Scottish
festivals and highland games in the Southeast and performs at
church services, festivals, parades, and other public and private
functions in the region. The entire band, smaller units, and

The Montreat Scottish Pipes and Drums have enjoyed a long history
of popularity and support as they bring their message of the great
highland bagpipes and traditional Scottish music to listeners
everywhere.
The Montreat Scottish Pipes and Drums originated in
1973 as the Asheville Highlanders, and in 1974 the band began
competing and performing at Highland Games and various festivals
around the eastern United States.
In 1983 the Montreat Scottish Society assumed
sponsorship of the band---originally outfitting the band in the
Prince Charles Edward Stewart tartan and full military uniform.
In 1997 the Scottish Society designed and received
commission of the Montreat tartan, and in 2000 the band was
re-outfitted in the new and unique tartan.
The
Montreat Scottish Pipes and Drums have been regular performers at
the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Montreat’s Kirkin' o'
the Tartan, numerous festivals, and special services.
The band has also been honored performers at such
events as North Carolina's 200th Anniversary celebration in
Manteo, NC; the World's Fair in Knoxville, TN; the 100th
Anniversary of the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC; and the
Performing Arts Series in Pittsburgh, PA.
The band has joined forces for many performances with
the Avery County-based Blue Ridge Brass, playing traditional as
well as original music. The combined bands toured and performed in
Scotland during the summer of 1997. |
